The Mayor’s Cup will stay in Columbia, S.C. after Will Muschamp’s team defeated the Missouri Tigers 37-35 in the Battle of Columbia. The winning score came on a 33-yard field goal by Gamecock kicker Parker White with two seconds remaining on the clock. Missouri had just taken at 35-34 lead on a 53-yard field goal with 1:18 to go in the game, but Gamecock senior quarterback Michael Scarnecchia was able to drive South Carolina down the field for the game winning kick.

Scarnecchia, who was a last minute replacement for injured starting quarterback Jake Bentley, made the first start of his career and outdueled Missouri highly rated star quarterback Drew Lock. The Gamecock quarterback finished the game 20 of 35 for 253 yards and three touchdowns.

South Carolina Coach Will Muschamp said the game was one of the wildest he had ever been part of.

The game featured two lightning delays, a monsoon rain that lasted the majority of the second half, temperatures in the mid-90s in October to start the game, and the game clock and play clock malfunctioning in the second half.

The Gamecocks are now 3-2 and will host Texas A&M next Saturday. Missouri is 3-2 and will travel to No. 1 ranked Alabama.
