South Carolina coach Will Muschamp said true freshman quarterback Ryan Hilinski’s knee injury is “nothing serious” and he is expected to start Saturday’s home game against No. 9 Florida.
Hilinski had to be helped off the field early in the second half of the Gamecocks’ 20-17 double-overtime upset at then-No. 3 Georgia on Saturday in Athens.
Bulldogs linebacker Adam Anderson appeared to trip over an offensive lineman, lunging forward and landing on Hilinski, bending his left knee awkwardly. Anderson was flagged for roughing the passer, and Hilinski finished his day 15 of 20 for 116 yards with a touchdown.
“He’s got a sprained knee,” Muschamp told reporters on a conference call Sunday night. “It’s nothing serious. I’ll know more Tuesday. He’s a little sore, obviously, today. But again, it’s nothing serious. We expect him to play on Saturday.”
South Carolina (3-3, 2-2 SEC) does not practice Monday.
Redshirt freshman Dakereon Joyner replaced Hilinski and completed 6 of 12 passes for 39 yards while rushing six times for 28 yards.
Hilinski has completed 62.8 percent of his passes for 1,028 yards with six touchdowns and three picks in six games this season.
