Defensive end Jordan Davis, who was considered a big part of Alabama’s 2018 recruiting class before failing to qualify academically in Tuscaloosa, has committed to Tennessee.
Davis is enrolled at Copiah-Lincoln (Miss.) Community College.
“It’s just (that) I wanted to truly go somewhere I feel that I can really make a difference,” Davis said in an interview with 247Sports.com.
“I just want to do something different. I want to do something big. I want to do something big for my hometown and my state. I mean, I shocked the world with that one.”
Davis signed with Alabama last December and was expected to enroll early, giving him a chance to play a role as a freshman with the Crimson Tide.
However, when he didn’t qualify, Davis headed for junior college and in October posted on Twitter that he remained committed to Alabama and head coach Nick Saban.
Now, he said he will play for the Volunteers and head coach Jeremy Pruitt, former defensive coordinator at Alabama.
The 6-5, 238-pound Davis was a consensus four-star 2018 signee, rated by 247Sports.com as the No. 6 weakside defensive end in the country, the No. 2 player at any position in Tennessee, and the No. 108 player overall in the Class of 2018.
Only two defensive linemen in the nation were ranked higher than Davis.
