The Tennessee football program paused all team activities Wednesday as it deals with multiple positive COVID-19 tests among its players and staff members.
“Upon learning of the positive results, the staff members and student-athletes immediately self-isolated and are taking the appropriate safety measures in accordance with university, CDC and local health department guidelines,” the school said in a statement.
The Volunteers are slated to begin spring practice on Tuesday, with the team’s spring game scheduled for April 24 at Neyland Stadium. The school has yet to announce if those events will take place as scheduled or be pushed back.
The program is in midst of transition after coach Jeremy Pruitt was fired for cause on Jan. 18 following an investigation summarized by university chancellor Donde Plowman as “serious violations of NCAA rules.”
Former UCF coach Josh Heupel was hired to replace Pruitt on Jan. 27.
Tennessee had a 3-7 record last season.
