Aggies ready for LSU in regular-season finale
The No. 22 Texas A&M Aggies (7-4, 4-3 SEC) earned a rare marquee non-conference win over a Group of Five team last week, upending a ranked UAB Blazers squad 41-20 at home.
That sets up the Aggies with momentum as they have an opportunity to take down the No. 7 LSU Tigers (9-2, 5-2 SEC) on Saturday in their regular season finale at home.
Coach Jimbo Fisher said earlier this week that he feels a budding rivalry between LSU and Texas A&M is forming, and that feeling is magnified due to LSU’s College Football Playoff implications this week.
“I think that when teams are significant in their conferences and the local recruiting areas and conference status, winning SEC titles and national championships, I think does (make it a rivalry game) after a while,” Fisher said.
LSU enjoys a seven-game winning streak over the Aggies dating back to 2011.
“We need to pick up our end of it,” Fisher said. “Us getting on the winning track would make it a rivalry.”
LSU is coming off a 42-10 blowout of Rice in its tune-up for the Aggies. The Tigers’ previous effort against an SEC opponent saw Arkansas nearly pull off a massive upset as LSU narrowly won on Nov. 10 by a score of 24-17.
A win for Texas A&M would give the Aggies a second-place finish in the SEC West and a 6-2 mark in conference play, the best conference finish for the Aggies since 2012.
Texas A&M-LSU kicks off at 7:30 p.m. ET with the game being televised on the SEC Network.
