PLAYERS TO WATCH

–QB Kyle Shurmur has to play better than the last two weeks. The senior, who was brilliant the first three games, has thrown three interceptions the last two games and all were poorly thrown. Shurmur was 18 for 38 for 180 yards in VU’s only SEC game, a 37-14 loss to South Carolina two weeks ago.

–RB Ke’Shawn Vaughn showed a glimpse of his potential by ripping off a spectacular 78-yard touchdown run against TSU. He ranks sixth in the SEC with 360 rushing yards and averages 6.4 per carry, that average ranking seventh among the SEC’s top 34 rushers.

–OLB Charles Wright, who had nine sacks a year ago, awaits his first sack. The Commodores have two sacks in their last two games, and need to get their preseason second team All-SEC linebacker going.

–CB Allan George could be on the spot this week. Teams have been picking on VU’s nickel in recent weeks. George, who’s probably performed better than anyone else in that role, leads the team in snaps from that spot.

SERIES HISTORY: Georgia leads 57-20-2, and won 45-14 last season. VU won the last meeting in Athens (2016) by a 17-16 score.

QUOTE TO NOTE: “I said it going into the season, I thought Kalija was the most underrated receiver in this conference, and I still believe that.” — Coach Derek Mason on Kalija Lipscomb, who leads the Southeastern Conference in receiving yards (480) and receptions (43).
