The Cincinnati Reds on Wednesday put veteran slugger and former Most Valuable Player Joey Votto on the injured list without an injury designation.

No other details were provided by the team.

Votto, 37, played six innings in the Reds’ exhibition game against San Francisco on Sunday, and the first baseman has four hits in nine at-bats this spring.

He hit .226 with 11 home runs in 54 games last season. The six-time All-Star is a career .304/.419/.517 hitter with 295 home runs, 966 RBIs and 1,041 runs scored. He needs just 92 hits to reach 2,000 for his career, all with Cincinnati.

Votto landed on the IL last August after self-reporting symptoms of COVID-19, but he did not test positive for the virus and missed just two games.
