The Atlanta Braves activated standout Freddie Freeman from the disabled list on Tuesday and are moving him to third base.

Freeman broke his left wrist May 17 and the Braves traded for first baseman Matt Adams during his absence.

Freeman was to start at third base Tuesday night against the Houston Astros, the club announced.

Freeman, who had played first base his entire time in the majors, began working out at third base two weeks ago during his recovery period. He last played third base in 2017 as a 17-year-old in the rookie Gulf Coast League.

The 27-year-old was batting .341 with 14 homers and 25 RBIs before sustaining his injury.

–Cleveland Indians manager Terry Francona missed Tuesday night’s game against the San Diego Padres.

Francona was at the Cleveland Clinic on Tuesday for more tests because of an accelerated heart issue that has caused him to be taken the facility in the middle of games twice in the last three weeks. Bench coach Brad Mills will be the Indians’ acting manager until Francona returns.

“They are in the process of trying to narrow down exactly what’s been causing his symptoms,” Indians president Chris Antonetti said. “So he’s back at the Clinic tonight getting some additional tests, with the hope that they can better determine what’s been causing him to have episodes of not feeling great.”

Antonetti said Francona had no episodes during Cleveland’s three-game series in Detroit over the weekend. Asked if Francona would manage Wednesday’s game against San Diego, Antonetti said, “We’re still working through that. It depends upon how long and what tests they need to do.”

–The Toronto Blue Jays activated catcher Miguel Montero prior to Tuesday afternoon’s game against the host New York Yankees.

Backup catcher Luke Maile was placed on the 10-day disabled list with right knee inflammation to make room for Montero, who was acquired Monday after being designated for assignment by the Chicago Cubs.

Chicago parted ways with Montero in the midst of a public spat that started when the 33-year-old criticized right-hander Jake Arrieta for allowing seven stolen bases in a loss to the Washington Nationals.

–Chicago Cubs outfielder Jason Heyward was activated from the disabled list prior to Tuesday’s afternoon game against the Tampa Bay Rays at Wrigley Field.

Heyward has been sidelined since June 18 with a hand injury sustained while sliding for a foul ball in Pittsburgh. The 27-year-old started in right field and went 1-for-4.

Heyward is batting .257 with six homers and 30 RBIs this season, his second with Chicago. Chicago also promoted left-hander Jack Leathersich from Iowa and optioned infielder Jeimer Candelario and right-hander Felix Pena to the Triple-A club.

–New York Mets left fielder T.J. Rivera left Tuesday’s game against the Washington Nationals in the seventh inning after he limped to first base while running out a ground ball.

Rivera was 2-for-4 prior to the injury. Matt Reynolds took over in left field.
