agent left-hander Wei-Yin Chen reached agreement with the Miami Marlins on a five-year contract worth $80 million with a vesting option for a sixth year, according to multiple reports Tuesday.
There is not a no-trade clause in the deal, but the contract does include an opt-out for Chen after the second year, CBSSports.com reported.
The 29-year-old Chen, who is from Taiwan, started 31 games for the Baltimore Orioles in 2015 and posted an 11-8 record with a 3.32 ERA with 153 strikeouts in 191 innings. Since 2012, Chen has a 3.72 ERA in 117 starts spanning 707 innings, all with the Orioles.
Chen earlier rejected a $15.8 million qualifying offer from the Orioles.
With the Marlins’ acquisition of Chen, Miami’s candidates for the starting rotation in 2016 will be right-hander Jose Fernandez, Chen, right-hander Edwin Jackson, right-hander Tom Koehler, right-hander Jarred Cosart, left-hander Adam Conley and right-hander David Phelps.
