With the best record in baseball and a 15-game lead in the NL West Division, the Los Angeles Dodgers are bringing up their top pitching prospect, right-hander Dustin May.

ESPN’s Jeff Passan cited sources on Wednesday who said that May, ranked the 35th-best prospect among all teams according to MLB Pipeline, will start Friday when the Dodgers host the San Diego Padres in the second game of their four-game series.

May, whom the Dodgers drafted in the third round in 2016, is on a rapid rise through the Dodgers’ farm system, having begun the season at Double-A Tulsa, where he was 3-5 with a 3.74 ERA in 15 starts.

The 6-foot-6, 21-year-old May was promoted to Triple-A Oklahoma City, where he made five starts, going 3-0 with a 2.30 ERA.

May, who has long red hair, has been nicknamed Gingergaard, similar to the Mets’ Noah Syndergaard.
