The New York Yankees placed All-Star catcher Gary Sanchez on the 10-day injured list Wednesday.

Sanchez is dealing with a left groin strain.

Sanchez, 26, is batting .229 with 24 home runs and 58 RBIs. He departed in the eighth inning of Tuesday’s game against the Minnesota Twins after a ground out.

In addition to Sanchez’s move to the IL, the Yankees optioned right-hander Jonathan Holder to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre after Tuesday’s game.

In corresponding moves, the Yankees recalled catcher Kyle Higashioka and left-hander Nestor Cortes Jr. from Triple-A. Both are expected to be available for Wednesday’s series finale at Minnesota.

Higashioka, 29, played in four games for the Yankees earlier this season going 3-for-15 at the plate. Cortes, 24, had 14 relief appearances with the Yankees earlier this season, going 3-0 with a 4.34 ERA.

This marks the second injured list stint for Sanchez this season. In April, when the Yankees were in the midst of an injury crisis, Sanchez became the 12th New York player to go on the IL when he had a left calf strain. He missed 11 games because of that injury.
