Texas Rangers right-hander Andrew Cashner was activated from the 10-day disabled list on Thursday to start that afternoon’s game against the Cleveland Indians at Progressive Field.
Right-hander Preston Claiborne was optioned to Triple-A Round Rock to open a roster spot for Cashner, who had been sidelined with a left oblique strain.
Cashner initially sustained the injury in a 13-2 loss against the Houston Astros on June 14. The 30-year-old owns a 3-6 mark with a 3.50 ERA in 12 starts this season.
Claiborne yielded three runs in two innings in his lone appearance with Texas in Monday’s game at Cleveland.
