The Arizona Cardinals are expected to be without starting running back Andre Ellington for a couple of weeks after he damaged the PCL in his right knee.

Ellington suffered a Grade 1 PCL sprain to his knee and is estimated to return to playing in two to three weeks, according to ESPN.com.

Ellington went down untouched in the fourth quarter after gaining 2 yards on a run up the middle. Before his injury, Ellington ran for 69 yards and a touchdown on 12 carries.

Ellington rushed for 660 yards and three touchdowns in 2014. He suffered a foot injury the week before Week 1 last season that lingered until he was put on injured reserve following a hip injury in late November.

Ellington’s injury leaves the Cardinals with veteran Chris Johnson and rookie David Johnson in the backfield. David Johnson had a 55-yard touchdown catch-and-run in Sunday’s 31-19 win over the New Orleans Saints.

Chris Johnson likely will be the starter. He gained 37 yards on 10 carries.

“I thought Chris looked good,” coach Bruce Arians said after the game. “He’ll get more touches and we will feel very confident if he is our lead dog.”
