Arizona Cardinals safety Tyrann Mathieu has a torn ACL and will miss the remainder of the season, head coach Bruce Arians confirmed Monday.

Mathieu suffered the injury in the fourth quarter of Sunday night’s 40-17 victory over the Philadelphia Eagles that moved the Cardinals’ record to 12-2 to clinch the NFC West title. Mathieu intercepted a Sam Bradford pass and limped off the field

“This is such a bittersweet win,” quarterback Carson Palmer said after the game when reacting to Mathieu’s injury. “There’s nothing we can do but pray. We’re all praying for him. I feel like I’ve been praying for the last 20, 30, 45 minutes. God’s powerful. We’ll see what happens.”

Arians said an MRI on Monday revealed the injury. Arians also said that Mathieu’s status for the beginning of the 2016 season is uncertain.

The 23-year-old Mathieu, known as the “Honey Badger,” has 89 tackles, one sack and five interceptions this season.

Mathieu tore two left knee ligaments on Dec. 8, 2013. He returned to game action on Sept. 15, 2014.
