New York Giants running back Saquon Barkley left Sunday’s game in Tampa Bay with a right ankle injury in the second quarter and was ruled out by the team.

According to ESPN, Barkley has a high-ankle sprain and will have an MRI on Monday.

The second-year back was on the sidelines on crutches and in a walking boot as the second half began. He hopped across the field on one foot, crutches in tow, to celebrate with teammates after the Giants won 32-31 in comeback fashion on rookie quarterback Daniel Jones’ second rushing touchdown.

Barkley was injured when Bucs safety Mike Edwards went low on him to make a tackle after Barkley caught a short pass from Jones and was trying to get out of bounds. The play happened with little more than three minutes left in the first half and the Giants trailing 18-10.

Barkley limped to the locker room with assistance from two trainers.

Tampa Bay would score 10 more points to take a 28-10 lead into the locker room, but the Giants scored 22 of the final 25 points.

Barkley entered the game with 227 rushing yards on 29 carries (7.8 average), seven catches for 47 yards and one touchdown in two games. He had 10 yards rushing and 27 receiving Sunday at the time of his injury.

The 2018 Offensive Rookie of the Year had 1,307 yards rushing, 721 yards receiving on 91 catches and 15 total touchdowns as a rookie last season.

Linebacker Alec Ogletree also missed the second half with a hamstring injury.
