Brewers’ all-time single-season saves leader John Axford is returning to Milwaukee.

The Toronto Blue Jays traded the right-hander to Milwaukee on Monday for cash considerations. Axford, who signed a minor league deal with the Jays in June, was not on the team’s 40-man roster, making him eligible to be dealt past the trade deadline.

Axford will be in uniform for the Brewers’ game Monday night against the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Axford, 38, hasn’t pitched in the big leagues since 2018.

He notched 46 saves for the Brewers in 2011, a franchise record that still stands. Axford went 21-19 with a 3.35 ERA and 106 saves for the Brewers from 2009-13. He bounced around with seven teams since then, last pitching for the Blue Jays and Los Angeles Dodgers in 2018.

For his career, Axford is 38-34 with a 3.87 ERA and 144 saves.
