The Milwaukee Brewers acquired All-Star infielder Eduardo Escobar from the Arizona Diamondbacks on Wednesday in exchange for prospects Cooper Hummel and Alberto Ciprian.

Escobar, 32, is batting .246 and slugging .478 with 22 home runs, 14 doubles and 65 RBIs in 98 games for Arizona, which owns the worst record in baseball. He primarily plays third base, but can also play second base and shortstop.

The Brewers, meanwhile, led the National League Central by seven games entering Wednesday’s action and were looking to add to their roster as the pennant race entered its final two months.

Hummel, a 26-year-old outfielder, has played the entire 2021 season so far for Triple-A Nashville, where he’s batted .254 and hit six home runs, eight doubles, three triples and 15 RBIs.

Ciprian, a third baseman, batted .378 in 37 at-bats in the Dominican Summer League.
