The Philadelphia Phillies acquired right-handed starter Kyle Gibson and right-handed reliever Ian Kennedy from the Texas Rangers before Friday’s trade deadline, multiple reports said.

The Athletic reports Philadelphia will also bring in right-handed prospect Hans Crouse from Texas in exchange for righty Spencer Howard, right-handed prospect Kevin Gowdy and one other prospect.

In the midst of a three-team race for the National League East title, the Phillies added an All-Star arm in Gibson to their staff. The 33-year-old is 6-3 with a 2.87 ERA in 19 starts for the Rangers this year. He has 94 strikeouts over 113 innings.

It is statistically the best season of Gibson’s career, and 2021 marked his first All-Star nod. In seven years with the Minnesota Twins (2013-19) and two with Texas (2020-21), Gibson owns a 4.42 lifetime ERA and 75-77 record.

Kennedy, 36, was playing his first season for the Rangers after stints with the New York Yankees (2007-09), Arizona Diamondbacks (2010-13), San Diego Padres (2013-15) and Kansas City Royals (2016-20).

Kennedy has a 2.51 ERA and 16 saves in 17 chances this season. He has 35 strikeouts over 32 1/3 innings.

Crouse is 3-2 with a 3.35 ERA in 13 starts for Double-A Frisco this year.

Howard started seven of his 11 appearances for Philadelphia this season, his second in MLB. He stands at 0-2 with a 5.72 ERA and 31 strikeouts over 28 1/3 innings. Gowdy has appeared in 14 games (12 starts) for High-A Jersey Shore with a 4-5 record and 4.43 ERA.
