Major League Baseball owners reportedly proposed a sliding scale for salary reductions that would call for greater pay cuts for higher-paid players.
USA Today reported the proposal replaces what had been reported as a 50-50 split of revenue. According to Bob Nightengale of USA Today, revenue sharing is not mentioned in the standing proposal expected to be discussed by the players union on Tuesday.
High-earning players who have their salary reduced could receive the difference in salary in deferred payments, according to MLB Network’s Jon Heyman.
Los Angeles Angels outfielder Mike Trout is scheduled to earn the highest salary in the league at $37.6 million in 2020.
An attempt at convening for spring training in June is part of the proposed MLB plan that would including Opening Day, originally scheduled for March 26, being moved to the first week of July.
