Atlanta Braves catcher Brian McCann is calling it a career.
McCann said after the National League Division Series loss to the St. Louis Cardinals that he’s ready to retire. The 35-year-old played 1,755 career games and was part of the 2017 World Series roster of the Houston Astros.
“I had a long career,” McCann told reporters Wednesday night. “Fifteen years is a long time catching every day. And I got to do it in my hometown.”
A seven-time All-Star selection and six-time Silver Slugger winner who broke into the big leagues with the Braves, McCann was a career .262 hitter with 282 home runs and 1,018 RBIs with Atlanta, the New York Yankees and Astros.
McCann singled in the fifth inning off of Jack Flaherty with the Cardinals up 13-1 for his final hit.
The Braves drafted the Georgia native out of high school in the second round of the 2002 draft.
