The Boston Red Sox will call up right-hander Connor Seabold to make his major league debut Saturday in a start against the Chicago White Sox, multiple outlets reported.

Left-hander Chris Sale was in line to start for the Red Sox against his former team, but the veteran tested positive for COVID-19 on Friday. Sale is one of more than a dozen Red Sox players who have missed time of late for COVID-19 related issues.

Seabold is 2-3 with a 3.61 ERA in 10 starts with Triple-A Worcester this year, striking out 56 in 47 1/3 innings.

The 25-year-old, a third-round pick of the Philadelphia Phillies in 2017, was traded to the Red Sox last year as part of the deal that cost Nick Pivetta in return.

The Red Sox (80-63) maintain a one-game lead in the American League wild-card standings over the New York Yankees, who lost their seventh consecutive game Friday. The Toronto Blue Jays were 1 1/2 games off the pace of the Red Sox at the start of play Saturday, while the Oakland Athletics and Seattle Mariners were within two games of Boston.
