The Chicago White Sox were still in business mode on the day of their first playoff game since 2008 as right-hander Steve Cishek was released and left-hander Ross Detwiler elected free agency on Tuesday.

The moves came as Game 1 of their American League wild-card series game at Oakland approached.

Both players parting ways with the White Sox were recently designated for assignment.

Cishek, 34, had a 5.40 ERA over 22 appearances this season, his first with the White Sox after signing a $5.25-million deal for 2020 with an option year. The White Sox will now pay a $750,000 buyout to avoid the option.

Detwiler, 34, did not allow a run over his first nine appearances of the season but ended the year with a 1-1 record and a 3.20 ERA. In his final appearance of 2020, he gave up four runs in 1 1/3 innings Sept. 20 against the Reds.
