Colorado Rockies closer Scott Oberg was placed on the 10-day injured list Sunday, a day after undergoing a procedure to dissolve a blood clot in his pitching arm.

The right-hander remained hospitalized Sunday morning, manager Bud Black told reporters.

“His arm felt heavy; it just didn’t feel normal, so it was alarming,” Black said on MLB.com.

Oberg, 29, had similar issues in 2016, when he underwent two surgeries for axillary artery thrombosis (blood clots) in his right arm and shoulder. He didn’t pitch against that season after a mid-August diagnosis.

Oberg (6-1, 2.25 ERA) took over as the team’s closer earlier this month, replacing the struggling Wade Davis. Oberg has five saves this season, including one Friday night against the Miami Marlins.

This surgery likely will be season-ending, although Black didn’t put it in those terms.

“In simplest terms, blood clot in the arm, had it dissolved, and what happens today and moving forward, I’ll be kept abreast of that — that’s all I know,” Black said.

Oberg has spent all five of his seasons in the majors with the Rockies, compiling an 18-8 mark with a 3.85 ERA and seven saves in 259 relief appearances.

Colorado recalled righty DJ Johnson from Triple-A Albuquerque. Johnson, 29, is 0-1 with a 9.26 ERA in 14 games with the Rockies this season.
