ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — Five relievers combined to hold the Tampa Bay Rays to three hits and the Toronto Blue Jays got a solo home run from Darwin Barney in the eighth inning of a 2-1 win on Sunday afternoon at Tropicana Field.

The Rays’ lack of offense spoiled a solid outing by starter Alex Cobb (2-2), who gave up four hits in eight innings.

Barney crushed a 1-0 pitch to left field with one out in the eighth to give the Blue Jays a 2-1 lead against Cobb.

The Rays scored an unearned run in the third off fill-in starter Joe Biagini, who came out of the bullpen for his first start and held the Rays to one run on two hits in four innings. Kevin Kiermaier reached on an error, advanced on Jesus Sucre’s sacrifice bunt and scored on Alex Dickerson’s two-out single for a 1-0 lead.

Toronto tied the score in the sixth on Russell Martin’s RBI single.

Orioles 4, White Sox 0

BALTIMORE — Chris Tillman threw five innings of three-hit ball in his season debut and Baltimore completed a three-game sweep of Chicago and posted its fourth straight win.

Tillman (1-0) opened the season on the disabled list with right shoulder bursitis. He walked the first two batters he faced before settling down and finishing with four strikeouts and three walks.

Trey Mancini and Joey Rickard had three hits apiece for the Orioles.

The Orioles took a 2-0 lead in the first on a sacrifice fly by Chris Davis and a single by Mancini. Baltimore boosted the margin to 4-0 on RBI singles by Adam Jones and Manny Machado in the second.

Marlins 7, Mets 0

NEW YORK — Jose Urena teamed up with three relievers on a one-hitter and Giancarlo Stanton launched two long homers as Miami routed New York.

The victory ended a three-game losing streak for the Marlins. The loss capped a distraction-filled day for the Mets. New York announced before the game that right-hander Matt Harvey — Sunday’s scheduled starter — was suspended three days without pay for a violation of team rules.

Urena (1-0), making his first start of the season in place of injured Edinson Volquez, opened with five no-hit innings. Urena allowed one walk and struck out two in six innings.

Stanton hit a three-run homer off the facade in the second deck in left field in the first inning and hit the windows on the suites in left field with a solo shot in the third. It was his 21st career multi-homer game.

Brewers 6, Pirates 2

PITTSBURGH — Held to one run in the first two games of a three-game series at PNC Park, Milwaukee broke out the bats in a win over Pittsburgh as Jesus Aguilar contributed an RBI double and a solo home run.

Eric Thames went 3-for-4 with a double and a home run, his 12th of the season, and two RBIs.

Rookie Jose Osuna provided the Pirates’ only offense with a two-run homer in the sixth inning. It was the first home run of his MLB career.

Padres-Dodgers, ppd.

The game between Los Angeles and San Diego was postponed by heavy rain — just the third rainout since the Padres moved into Petco Park in 2004.

The game was rescheduled for Sept. 2 as part of a day-night doubleheader.
