PITTSBURGH — Shane Greene pitched eight dominant innings as the Detroit Tigers beat the Pittsburgh Pirates 2-0 on Tuesday night, getting back on track a day after their season-opening six-game win streak ended.

The Pirates managed just three singles off Greene and two of them never left the infield. The right-hander struck out three, did not walk a batter.

The Tigers acquired the 26-year-old from the New York Yankees in a three-team trade during that offseason that also involved the Arizona Diamondbacks.

Athletics 4, Astros 0

HOUSTON — Right-hander Kendall Graveman rebounded from a rough debut and four relievers helped preserve Oakland’s shutout at Minute Maid Park.

Graveman, shelled in his Athletics debut last week against the Texas Rangers, worked into the sixth inning and allowed four hits and four walks while striking out three en route to his first major league win.

Rangers 8, Angels 2

ARLINGTON, Texas — Catcher Robinson Chirinos drove in five runs to back another strong outing from starter Nick Martinez as Texas routed Los Angeles at Globe Life Park.

Chirinos set a career high for RBIs with a three-run home run and two-run double during the second-best offensive outburst by Texas this season.

Reds 3, Cubs 2

CHICAGO — Right-hander Anthony DeSclafani struck out five and allowed just two hits while Cincinnati held off Chicago’s late rally.

DeSclafani threw 97 pitches through seven scoreless innings and didn’t allow a hit until the fourth inning. He permitted just four runners on a pair of singles and two walks.

Mets 6, Phillies 5

NEW YORK — New Yorkright-hander Matt Harvey earned the win in his first start at Citi Field since returning from Tommy John surgery.

First baseman Lucas Duda delivered a three-run double in the second inning that gave the Mets the lead for good. The Mets have won three straight while the Phillies have dropped three in a row.

Rays 3, Blue Jays 2

TORONTO — Steven Souza Jr. hit a long home run in the first inning, then scored the go-ahead run on a sacrifice fly in the eighth after bunting for a single, as Tampa Bay held on for the win.

Tampa Bay took the opening two games of the four-game series to run its winning streak to four.

White Sox 4, Indians 1

CLEVELAND — Cleveland lost its starting pitcher two batters into the game, and it didn’t get much better from there as four Chicago pitchers combined on a three-hitter at Progressive Field.

Cleveland right-hander Carlos Carrasco apparently avoided serious injury after getting hit in the head by a line drive off the bat of left fielder Melky Cabrera.

The ball appeared to deflect off Carrasco’s glove, and hit him on the right side of the face. He fell to the ground and remained face down for several minutes before being carted off the field.

Marlins 8, Braves 2

ATLANTA — Miami slugger Giancarlo Stanton broke his slump just in time to help Tom Koehler finally get a victory over the Atlanta Braves.

Stanton, who had seen an 0-for-12 skid drop his average to .130, drove in four runs with a pair of singles and a double to key the Marlins victory.

Orioles 4, Yankees 3

BALTIMORE — Adam Jones homered for the fourth time in five games, and starter Miguel Gonzalez struck out a career-high 10 batters in seven innings as Baltimore defeated New York.

Jones went 1-for-3 with two RBIs on a solo homer and a sacrifice fly. The center fielder now is 11-for-17 in the first five games of this homestand.

Red Sox 8, Nationals 7

BOSTON — Scoring three runs in the seventh inning without recording a hit, Boston rallied for a wild win.

Boston erased a 7-5 deficit by scoring twice on two errors on the same play by Washington reliever Blake Treinen. A groundout by shortstop Brock Holt drove in the winning run.

Second baseman Dustin Pedroia went 3-for-4 with a homer, center fielder Mookie Betts hit a two-run double, and Boston’s bullpen tossed 4 1/3 scoreless innings to lead the Red Sox to their fifth win in the past six games.
