Thursday’s game between the Baltimore Orioles and New York Yankees was postponed due to rain, pushing back the opener of the four-game series to a seven-inning doubleheader Friday at Yankee Stadium.

The postponement was announced about a half-hour before Thursday’s game was slated to start.

The Yankees (22-21) are 6-15 in their last 21 games and occupy the second wild-card spot in the American League in an expanded eight-team field. Baltimore (20-22), which lost 115 and 107 games in the previous two seasons, enters the series 1 1/2 games back of the Yankees.

Gerrit Cole was slated to start the series opener and will pitch in Game 1, followed by Masahiro Tanaka, the originally scheduled starter for Friday.

Alex Cobb is slated to come off the injured list for Baltimore and will start one of the games. Prospect Keegan Akin, who was slated to start Thursday, will likely start the game Cobb does not.
