MILWAUKEE — Chris Young threw seven scoreless innings and also helped his own cause with two hits and three RBIs as the Kansas City Royals cruised to a 7-2 victory over the Milwaukee Brewers on Tuesday night at Miller Park.

Young (6-2) struck out three and scattered five hits while not walking a single batter to improve 5-2 as a starter.

Home runs by center fielder Lorenzo Cain and third baseman Mike Moustakas, as well as an RBI triple by pinch hitter Jarrod Dyson fueled a 15-hit outburst by the Kansas City offense.

Brewers starter Matt Garza gave up 13 of those hits, setting a new career high — or low, depending on perspective — and was charged with six of the Royals runs while striking out three over 6 2/3 innings of work.

An eighth-inning RBI single by catcher Jonathan Lucroy broke the shutout bid and second baseman Scooter Gennett hit his second home run of the season in the ninth off right-hander Luke Hochevar.

Garza (4-8) allowed only two earned runs in his last three appearances — including five scoreless innings of relief in a 17-inning victory over the Arizona Diamondbacks on May 31 — but got into trouble early against the Royals.

Alcides Escobar led off the game with a base hit, but Garza caught a break when the Kansas City shortstop was thrown out trying to take second.

Moustakas followed with a base hit to bring up Cain, who connected for his sixth home run of the season — and second in as many days — to put the Royals up 2-0.

Young doubled in the fourth to add to the Royals’ lead when he hit a chopper into shallow center that drove in left fielder Alex Gordon and second baseman Omar Infante.
