Spring Scores: Ortiz caps final spring at-bat with HR

Eddie Rosario homered and Danny Santana had three hits and two RBIs for Minnesota and David Ortiz hit a home run in his final spring training at-bat for Boston as the Twins beat the Red Sox 7-4 on Thursday in Fort Myers, Fla.

The 40-year-old Ortiz, who is retiring at the end of the season, connected in the fifth inning. Hanley Ramirez also homered for the Red Sox.

Cardinals 9, Yankees 1

Mike Leake gave up two hits and no runs in four innings, Stephen Piscotty homered twice, Jeremy Hazelbaker hit a three-run homer in the fifth inning and Tommy Pham had a two-run homer in the seventh to lead St. Louis over a New York split squad in Tampa, Fla.

Tigers 10, Yankees 6

J.D. Martinez hit three home runs and Victor Martinez had one to power Detroit past a New York split squad in Lakeland, Fla. J.D. Martinez finished with three hits for the Tigers and Austin Romine belted a two-run homer and had three hits for the Yankees.

Pirates 13, Rays 8

Matt Joyce homered in a five-run first inning, Sean Rodriguez hit a grand slam in a five-run second and Francisco Cervelli also homered as Pittsburgh beat Tampa Bay in Port Charlotte, Fla. The Pirates scored 10 runs in the first two innings, with Jake Odorizzi giving up eight runs and six hits, and Tim Beckham hit a two-run homer and had four RBIs for the Rays.

Orioles 6, Braves 1

Three-run homers from Jonathan Schoop and Xavier Avery propelled Baltimore over Atlanta in Sarasota, Fla. Schoop homered against Braves starter Bud Norris, and Avery connected in the eighth.

Indians 3, Reds 1

Carlos Carrasco gave up one run and five hits in 6 2/3 innings and Cleveland scored two unearned runs against Cincinnati in Goodyear, Ariz. Three Indians doubles, an error by Eugenio Suarez and a passed ball accounted for Cleveland’s runs.

Rockies 6, Diamondbacks 3

Nolan Arenado boosted his RBI total to 31 — tops in the major leagues during spring training — and Mark Reynolds and Charlie Blackmon contributed home runs to Colorado’s win over Arizona in Scottsdale, Ariz. Arenado had an RBI double in the first inning to bring his spring average to .564, Reynolds homered with the bases empty and Blackmon with one on in a three-run second, and Welington Castillo and Rickie Weeks homered in the fourth for the Diamondbacks.
