Houston Astros right-hander Ryan Pressly will have arthroscopic surgery on his right knee Friday and is expected to miss four to six weeks.

An All-Star reliever, Pressly expressed discomfort with his knee after pitching in the Astros’ 6-3 win over the Detroit Tigers on Tuesday.

He is 2-3 with three saves and a 2.50 ERA in 51 relief appearances (50 1/3 innings) this season.

Pressly, 30, lands on the 10-day injured list for the second time this year. He was also sidelined from July 31-Aug. 9 with a right knee contusion.

“He pitched in a couple of games recently and his stuff looked good, but the knee continued to bother him,” general manager Jeff Luhnow said Thursday. “So we did further evaluation and we found a new injury that needed to be addressed surgically. Not a major injury, but something we don’t want him continuing to pitch with.”

Pressly made his major league debut with Minnesota in 2013 and has pitched in 358 games, all in relief. He is 20-19 with six saves, a 3.41 ERA and 379 strikeouts in 390 2/3 innings.

The Astros recalled right-hander Joe Biagini from Triple-A Round Rock. The team also purchased the contract of infield prospect Abraham Toro and optioned infielder Jack Mayfield back to Triple-A.
