Houston Astros starting pitcher Framber Valdez will be sidelined indefinitely with a fractured left ring finger, general manager James Click announced Wednesday.

The 27-year-old left-hander took a Francisco Lindor grounder off his pitching hand in the first inning of Tuesday’s spring training game against the New York Mets in Port St. Lucie, Fla.

Valdez remained in the game and pitched another inning.

“Following his outing, we decided to have Framber examined,” Click said. “The X-ray revealed the injury. At this point, the medical staff needs to do additional tests and imaging before deciding on the next steps. We will know more in the upcoming days.”

Valdez was 5-3 with a 3.57 ERA in 11 games (10 starts) in 2020, striking out 76 batters and walking 16 in 70 2/3 innings.

His 13-11 with a 4.19 ERA in 45 games (23 starts) since making his Astros debut in 2018.
