The Kansas City Royals designated struggling center fielder Billy Hamilton for assignment on Friday.

The 28-year-old Hamilton is batting just .211 with no homers and 12 RBIs. He has 18 steals in 93 games.

Kansas City recalled outfielder Brett Phillips from Triple-A Omaha in a corresponding move.

The Royals signed Hamilton to a one-year deal in the offseason. He spent the previous five-plus seasons with Cincinnati and batted .245 with 277 steals during his time with the Reds.

The speedy Hamilton stole 56 or more bases in each of his first four full seasons with Cincinnati.

Phillips was batting .240 with 18 homers and 54 RBIs in 105 games at Omaha.

He has played in 88 major league games with the Milwaukee Brewers (2017-18) and Royals (2018) and batted .222 with six homers and 23 RBIs.
