Miami Marlins center fielder Starling Marte was left off the team’s roster for the National League Division Series against the Atlanta Braves due to his fractured left pinkie.

Marte suffered the injury when he was hit by a pitch last Wednesday in Game 1 of the first-round series against the Chicago Cubs.

Marlins manager Don Mattingly was hopeful Marte would be available in a non-hitting role but the club opted to leave him off the 28-man roster.

“We just weren’t comfortable in what he was going to be able to do,” Mattingly said before Tuesday’s game.

Magneuris Sierra started in center field in the opener against the Braves and had singles in each of his first two at-bats.
