The Minnesota Twins hired former San Diego Padres manager Jayce Tingler as their bench coach for 2022.

The Twins on Monday also introduced David Popkins as the new hitting coach for manager Rocco Baldelli’s staff.

The Padres fired Tingler on Oct. 6 and had offered him the opportunity to remain with the team in another role.

Tingler, 40, compiled a 116-106 (.523) record in two seasons as the San Diego skipper.

He finished second in the National League Manager of the Year voting in 2020, but the Padres finished third in the National League West in 2021 after going 12-33 in their last 45 games.

Tingler spent 13 seasons in the Texas Rangers organization before taking over in San Diego.

Popkins, 31, most recently served as the hitting coach for the Great Lakes Loons, the Los Angeles Dodgers’ High-A affiliate. Under his guidance, the Loons led their division in home runs (187), slugging percentage (.456) and OPS (.800) in 2021.
