The Minnesota Twins reinstated third baseman Josh Donaldson from the 10-day injured list Wednesday after straining his right hamstring on Opening Day.
Donaldson was in the lineup for Wednesday’s game against the Boston Red Sox. He played third base and batted second in the lineup.
In his first at-bat Wednesday, Donaldson lined a single to center and later scored on a sacrifice fly.
Donaldson suffered the injury running the bases April 1 during his first at-bat of the season. He hit a double into left-center but began limping when he rounded first.
The 35-year-old missed 10 games for Minnesota. To make room for Donaldson on the roster, the twins optioned left-hander Brandon Waddell to their alternate training site.
Donaldson, the 2015 American League MVP with the Toronto Blue Jays, previously missed significant portions of the 2020, 2018 and 2017 seasons with a litany of injuries.
In 2020, his first season with the Twins, Donaldson batted .222 with six home runs, 11 RBIs and 18 walks in 28 games.
Waddell, 26, pitched a scoreless inning in his lone appearance this season.
