New York Mets right-hander Robert Gsellman has a partially torn lat muscle on his right side putting the rest of the reliever’s season in jeopardy.
Gsellman was already on the 10-day disabled list with what was believed to be right triceps tightness, but an MRI showed the lat injury. A similar injury to teammate Noah Syndergaard in 2017 cost the right hander four and a half months.
While surgery was not deemed necessary, Gsellman expressed his frustration Tuesday.
“With the way the team’s playing, I want to be with them,” he told reporters. “But I’m still going to be here. I’m going to work my butt off to try to get back and support the team.:
Gsellman was 2-3 with a 4.66 ERA in 52 appearances and recorded one save. He had 13 saves in 68 appearances last season.
