2018: After piling up 239 strikeouts in a full, healthy season in 2017, deGrom rocketed to the top of the SP board with his most dominant season to date. Among the 56 starting pitchers who qualified for an ERA title, deGrom had the lowest ERA, the highest strikeout rate, the second-most innings and the third-best WHIP. He was worth a staggering 8.8 Wins Above Replacement, per FanGraphs.

Forecast: deGrom passes every inspection. His Fielding Independent Pitching (1.99 FIP) and expected Fielding Independent Pitching (2.60) were the game’s best in 2018. His low home run rate (6.3 percent HR/FB) will be difficult to repeat, but a few more long balls shouldn’t materially change the bottom line. Scherzer or deGrom? It’s a tossup.

2019 Projections: 14-7 with a 2.67 ERA and 256 strikeouts and a 0.98 WHIP in 209 innings pitched.
