Gerrit Cole’s move to the New York Yankees has made the right-hander a favorite with one oddsmaker to win the American League Cy Young Award.
PointsBet listed Cole at +400 for the honor on Wednesday morning, hours after he signed a reported record nine-year, $324 million deal.
The contract surpasses the seven-year, $245 million pact that right-hander Stephen Strasburg got while re-signing with the Washington Nationals on Monday. By comparison, PointsBet listed Strasburg at +1000 to win the National League Cy Young Award.
Cole, 29, finished second in the AL Cy Young balloting in 2019, edged by Houston teammate Justin Verlander. Cole was 20-5 with a 2.50 ERA and 326 strikeouts in 212 1/3 innings over 33 starts for the American League champion Astros.
PointsBet also offered opening -110 odds on Cole’s over/under for wins (15.5) and strikeouts (280.5).
