New York Yankees shortstop Gleyber Torres was placed on the COVID-19 injured list after receiving a positive diagnosis for the virus, the team announced Thursday.

The Yankees recalled infielder/outfielder Miguel Andujar from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre to replace Torres, who became the eighth Yankees’ player, coach or traveling member to test positive this week.

Torres, 24, was fully vaccinated and previously had COVID-19 during December, manager Aaron Boone said.

Torres was held out of Wednesday’s game against the Tampa Bay Rays due to an “abundance of caution.” He is batting .234 with one homer and 10 RBIs in 33 games this season.

Per the Yankees, pitching coach Matt Blake, third base coach Phil Nevin, first base coach Reggie Willits and four members of the team’s traveling staff have tested positive for COVID-19. All are currently under quarantine protocol in Tampa.

“Major League Baseball, its medical experts and the New York State Department of Health are currently advising and assisting the Yankees, who continue to undergo additional testing and contact tracing,” the Yankees said in a statement.
