The New York Yankees continue to be hard hit by injuries, with catcher Gary Sanchez the latest to be forced to miss some time.

The team placed Sanchez on the 10-day injured list with a left calf strain on Friday, the designation retroactive to Thursday.

The Yankees called up catcher Kyle Higashioka from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre in a corresponding move.

Sanchez’s injury makes him the 12th player to go on the shelf for the Yankees.

For the season, Sanchez has hit .268 with six home runs and 11 RBIs, although he also has four throwing errors and hasn’t caught a game since Monday. He filled the designated hitter role on Tuesday and served as a pinch hitter on Wednesday.

Higashioka has appeared in 38 games for the Yankees over the last two seasons, posting a .133 average with three home runs.
