Jacoby Ellsbury’s lucrative tenure with the New York Yankees has come to an end.

The Yankees released the 36-year-old outfielder on Wednesday night. The team also designated first baseman Greg Bird for assignment.

Ellsbury arrived in New York with high hopes after signing a seven-year, $153 million contract in 2013 after a star stint with the Boston Red Sox. But injuries and inconsistency interrupted Ellsbury’s career, and he played only four seasons with the Yankees before sitting out the last two years.

Ellsbury most recently played in 2017. He hit .264 that season with seven homers and 39 RBIs in 112 games.

In 1,235 career games, Ellsbury has hit .284 with 104 homers, 512 RBIs and 343 stolen bases.
