Oakland Athletics shortstop Elvis Andrus had successful surgery on his season-ending fractured left fibula, with the team saying the 13-year veteran is expected to be healthy by the time spring training starts in February.

Andrus was injured rounding third base Saturday and collapsed on the plate to seal a 2-1, walk-off victory over the Houston Astros.

He had to be helped off the field by the Oakland training staff and was taken for X-rays afterward.

The 33-year-old ended his first season with the A’s batting .243 with three home runs and 37 RBIs in 146 games this season. He played 12 seasons with two All-Star selections for the Texas Rangers, batting .272 in his career with 79 home runs and 673 RBIs.

Andrus remains under contract for one more season with an option that vests for 2023 if he reaches 550 plate appearances in 2022.
