The Oakland A’s placed outfielder Stephen Piscotty on the 10-day injured list Sunday because of a right knee sprain suffered in Saturday’s game.

Piscotty sustained the injury on an awkward slide into second base after a single into left center in the sixth inning at the Los Angeles Angels. He beat the tag but was in immediate pain, putting his hands over his helmet while he was on his back, legs splayed off the bag. He then was tagged out by the Angels’ Luis Rengifo, eventually needing help getting off the field.

Piscotty is hitting .242 with nine home runs and 34 RBIs in 76 games. The 28-year-old had career highs of 27 home runs and 88 RBIs last season, his first with the A’s after being acquired in a trade after the 2017 season.

In a corresponding move, Oakland recalled infielder Franklin Barreto from Triple-A Las Vegas. Over his past 40 games with Las Vegas, Barreto hit .358 (58 of 162) with 10 home runs and 39 RBIs.

Barreto, 23, had appeared in 58 games for Oakland in the past three seasons, including one this year, before Sunday.
