Bryan Price is retiring as the Philadelphia Phillies’ pitching coach after just one season on the job, the team announced Sunday.
The Phillies are looking for a new pitching coach for the fifth straight season.
Price, 58, took over the role last October, shortly after Joe Girardi was hired as manager. Under Price, Phillies starters improved their ERA from 4.64 in 2019 to 4.08 in 2020.
“Bryan provided a trusted voice and had a major impact on our pitchers this season,” Phillies interim general manager Ned Rice said. “We wish Bryan nothing but the best in his retirement and thank him for his contributions this past season.”
Before 2020, Price managed the Cincinnati Reds for five seasons from 2014-18 and served as the Reds’ pitching coach from 2010-13.
The Phillies finished 28-32 and in third place in the National League East this season, failing to make baseball’s expanded playoff field.
