The Pittsburgh Pirates’ spring training facility in Bradenton, Fla., received a deep cleaning on Tuesday morning after a Manatee County man tested positive for coronavirus.
The areas cleaned by a sanitation team included the Pirates clubhouse and offices, along with the press box, dugouts, concession stands and suites at LECOM Park. According to ESPN, the Pirates didn’t conduct the cleaning in response from concerns by employees or others connected to the team.
“In an effort to be as proactive as possible and perhaps in an overabundance of caution, we took advantage of our scheduled off-day to professionally sanitize and deep clean LECOM Park,” Brian Warecki, the Pirates’ vice president of communications said, according to ESPN. “We will continue to actively consider other efforts that we can implement to help maintain a healthy environment for our fans, players and staff.”
On Monday, another adult tested positive for coronavirus in Hillsborough County, according to Triblive.com. One of the cities in that county is Clearwater, where the Philadelphia Phillies have their spring training site.
In a statement Monday, Warecki addressed fans, players and staff, saying, “We encourage everyone to listen to and rely upon the advice and guidance of the public health experts.”
The Pirates also plan to meet with players on Wednesday about proper safety measures to take in order to avoid coronavirus. A Pirates split squad is scheduled to face the Atlanta Braves at LECOM Park.
