The Pittsburgh Pirates placed Trevor Cahill on the 10-day injured list Saturday with a left calf strain and optioned fellow right-hander Mitch Keller to Triple-A Indianapolis.

To fill the roster spots of each, Pittsburgh recalled right-handers Geoff Hartlieb and Wil Crowe from Indianapolis.

Cahill, 33, was just reinstated from the IL because of a calf issue Thursday and pitched 1 1/3 innings of relief against the Milwaukee Brewers. He missed 19 games in his previous IL stint. He is 1-5 with a 6.57 ERA in nine appearances (eight starts) this season.

Keller, 25, is just 3-7 this season with a 7.04 ERA as the former second-round draft pick in 2014 has struggled to meet expectations.

“Mitch Keller is going to be a good major league pitcher,” manager Derek Shelton said. “When young players, young pitchers have struggles, it’s our job to come up with a program and a plan to help them get back to this level and be successful at this level. That’s what we’re doing with Mitch.”

Hartlieb, 27, gave up three runs in two innings of work for the Pirates earlier this season. In 51 career appearances, all with the Pirates over three seasons, he is 1-1 with a 7.13 ERA.

Crowe, 26, made eight appearances (seven starts) with the Pirates earlier this season. He was 0-4 with a 7.26 ERA and is 0-6 over 11 appearances (10 starts) in the past two seasons with an 8.24 ERA.
