Pittsburgh Pirates outfielder Bryan Reynolds has requested a trade, multiple outlets reported Saturday.
Reynolds, 27, was an All-Star in 2021 and batted .262 with a career-high 27 home runs in 2022.
The Pirates issued a statement expressing their concern with the news.
“While it is disappointing, this will have zero impact on our decision-making this offseason or in the future,” the team said. “Our goal is to improve the Pirates for 2023 and beyond. With three years until he hits free agency, Bryan remains a key member of our team. We look forward to him having a great season for the Pirates.”
Reynolds will almost certainly attract interest if the Pirates grant his request.
He will earn $6.75 million in 2023, is arbitration-eligible in 2024 and 2025 and won’t be a free agent until 2026.
Reynolds said in October that he wanted to be part of the Pirates’ future.
Through four seasons with Pittsburgh, Reynolds is a .281/.361/.481 hitter with 74 homers and 239 RBIs in 494 games.
The Pirates lost 100-plus games for the second straight season in 2022 and have not been to the playoffs since 2015.
