The San Diego Padres placed Mike Clevinger on the National League Division Series roster on Tuesday and immediately named him the Game 1 starter against the Los Angeles Dodgers.

The series begins Tuesday night in Arlington, Texas, and Clevinger’s status had been a mystery due to elbow soreness. He hasn’t pitched since leaving a start against the Los Angeles Angels after one inning on Sept. 23.

Clevinger missed the Padres’ first-round series triumph against the St. Louis Cardinals.

Co-ace right-hander Dinelson Lamet (biceps) was left off the NLDS roster. Lamet last pitched on Sept. 26.

Clevinger was 2-1 with a 2.84 ERA in four starts with the Padres this season. He was acquired from the Cleveland Indians before the trade deadline after falling out of favor in the clubhouse due to violations of the team’s COVID-19 protocol.

Clevinger has never faced the Dodgers in his five major league seasons.

The Padres also added left-hander Ryan Weathers and speedy outfielder Greg Allen to the NLDS roster. Players who were left off from the roster that beat the Cardinals are right-hander Dan Altavilla and infielders Greg Garcia and Jorge Mateo.
