San Diego Padres catcher Luis Campusano faces a felony drug charge after a weekend traffic stop in Georgia, according to reports by the Augusta (Ga.) Chronicle and the San Diego Union-Tribune on Tuesday.

Campusano, 22, allegedly had 79 milligrams of marijuana in his car when he was pulled over after 5 a.m. Saturday in Grovetown, Ga., near his hometown of Augusta. He was released on a bond of $5,000.

If convicted, Campusano could face up to 10 years in prison because of Georgia’s strict marijuana laws. By comparison, the same charge in California carries a maximum sentence of six months.

“We were recently notified of the arrest of Luis Campusano in his hometown of Augusta, Ga., this past weekend,” the Padres said in a statement. “We are gathering information and have been in contact with MLB and local authorities. As this is a pending legal matter, we will not have any further comment at this time.”

Campusano made his debut Sept. 4 and went 1-for-3 with a home run in his only regular-season game. He also went 0-for-1 with a strikeout in the playoffs.

MLB.com listed Campusano as the Padres’ No. 4 overall prospect this year.
