Retired Major League Baseball manager Bruce Bochy has signed on to manage France’s national team as it attempts to qualify for the World Baseball Classic in 2021, SFGate reported.

Bochy was born in France when his father was based there with the military.

“I want to stay involved and give back to baseball what it gave to me,” Bochy said, per SF Gate.

France failed to qualify for the World Baseball Classic in both 2013 and 2017.

Bochy, 64, retired at the end of the 2019 campaign after 25 seasons as a manager. He spent the first half of his career with the San Diego Padres (1995-2006), leading them to the 1998 National League pennant. He moved north in 2007 to manage the Giants, who won three World Series championships under Bochy.
