Free agent outfielder Jorge Soler, the 2021 World Series MVP who is coming off an All-Star season, agreed to a three-year deal with the Giants, the San Francisco Chronicle first reported Monday night.

Multiple outlets reported Tuesday that Soler’s contract is worth $42 million, pending his passing a physical exam.

After spending the past two seasons with the Miami Marlins, Soler opted out of the final year of his deal in November. Thanks to reaching all incentives based on plate appearances in 2023, he would have received a $13 million salary in 2024 under the terms of his old contract.

Soler, a 31-year-old Cuba native, is a right-handed hitter who slugged 36 homers last year. It was the second-highest total of his career, after he led the American League with 48 homers for the Kansas City Royals in 2019.

Soler won a World Series ring as a reserve with the Chicago Cubs in 2016. He was the 2021 World Series MVP for Atlanta after hitting .300 with three home runs and six RBIs in the Braves’ six-game victory over the Houston Astros.

Last year, Soler batted .250 with a .341 on-base percentage, a .512 slugging percentage and 75 RBIs in 137 games for Miami.

In his career, Soler owns a .243/.330/.467 batting line with 170 home runs and 452 RBIs in 870 games. He was with the Cubs from 2014-16, the Royals from 2017-21, the Braves for the last part of 2021 and the Marlins in 2022-23.
